What parts the LD-Agro UniDrive automatic steering system consists of?

The heart of the LD-Agro Unidrive autopilot is the control unit - ECU (Electrical Control Unit) - which is mounted in the tractor cab, usually using the seat locking screws. This central unit, in a unique way in the market, contains a compass, a 9-axis gyroscope (tilt sensor) and accelerometers. The LD-Agro UniDrive automatic steering system is therefore capable to handle and correct any movement (roll, pitching motion, swinging, lateral tilting).

Another important element of the LD-Agro UniDrive automatic steering system is an electromechanical engine, which, through the steering wheel, transmits the central unit’s commands to the agricultural power machine. This engine represents the latest generation of autopilots, it forcedly rotates the steering wheel through the toothed wheel enablng drift-free steering. The engine can be fixed on the steering wheel in several positions and has been designed not to interfere with the operator in the normal working practices even when using an autopilot.

A useful accessory of the steering wheel control is the LD-Agro foot switch. This foot switch can be connected to the autopilot making the operator’s work easier. Using it, the screen does not need to be touched during turns for enabling or disabling the steering wheel control.

One of the great advantages of the LD-Agro UniDrive is the possibility of its transfer. For quick transfer of the autopilot, we recommend the LD-Agro Unidrive transfer kit. Using this package the automatic steering cables can be installed in other machines as well. Thus, in case of transfer only main units are to be moved to another machine: the steering wheel control’s electric motor can be detached in a few steps, as well as the GeoD20 GPS receiver, the row guidance terminal and the central unit!

Of course, to use the autopilot the LD-Agro row guidance GPS is also required. Either LineGuide 800 or LineGuide 1000 type can be used. This includes a display and a corresponding GPS receiver, which gives the exact position needed for the autopilot. Via this terminal you can control and set up the autopilot functions and see the operation of the row guidance system.

Is it necessary to replace the original steering wheel to use the automatic steering?

The LD-Agro automatic steering system is designed to use factory elements in the majority of machines. This is true for the steering wheel as well, to use LD-Agro UniDrive it is not necessary to replace the original steering wheel and to dismantle the steering system. As manufacturers of agricultural power equipment use steering wheels of various types and sizes, so type specific fasteners can be ordered to use the autopilot, which fit perfectly into the original steering wheel.

How difficult is the installation and reinstallation of automatic steering system?

Installation and calibration of autopilot systems requires a few hours from skilled professionals. With transfer kit available for automatic steering system, it is possible to prepare several machines for the transfer of the system. This package contains the machine-specific mounting brackets and cables needed for another machine. In this case the electric motor and the central unit of the LD-Agro UniDrive automatic steering system can be transferred in a few minutes.

It drives the machine with RTK signals of +/- 2cm accuracy in the first minute as well as after 12 hours of continuous work. The automatic steering system does not get tired and does make any mistakes! Whether it is sowing or inter-row tillage, the autopilot provides useful help in every work operation! The LD-Agro GeoD20 GPS receiver ensures the return and pass-to-pass accuracy of +-2 cm. The RTK correction signals may come to the steering wheel control in real time from the Leica GeoAce base station or an NTRIP provider.

If youe to use the autopilot only for applying chemicals, tillage or fertilizer distribution, the pass-to-pass accuracy of 0-18 cm will be sufficient. The LD-Agro GeoX Pro GPS receiver developed for steering wheel control, will be perfectly suitable for this accuracy and will mean a very cost-efficient solution due to the use of free of charge EGNOS correction signals. Of course, later the autopilot system can be upgraded to the return accuracy of even +-2 cm by replacing the GPS receiver.
